The garage is one of the most important areas in a house. It requires tremendous planning especially if you think it would be used often. When making a plan, it is important to first determine what exactly will it be used for. This way, it would be easier to determine the features you need to incorporate into the design.
Epoxy Flooring
Garage floors need to be very durable, regardless of what the garage is going to be used for. One of the most idyllic floor options is an epoxy flooring. An epoxy coating is poured and spread evenly on an existing concrete garage floor and then left to harden and cure. This layer of protection is durable enough to last for years. It is also resistant to grease or oil stains, chemical spills, abrasion, impact, and moisture. An epoxy garage flooring is very easy to clean and maintain. It can also be decorated with paint chips, quartz, and fine aggregate to make it look more appealing.
Electrical System
Most homes place the electrical system either in the basement or the garage. Make sure it is well-planned to prevent short circuits. If you will be using a lot of electronic devices or equipment, such as power tools, in the garage, make sure that you have enough outlets and that these are placed in convenient spots in the garage. Lighting is also an important feature to consider. You should use LED lights in a garage especially if you will be using it as a workshop. LED may be expensive initially but the savings you get from it, in the long run, is definitely worth the investment.
Storage
Plan your storage carefully. Make a list of the items you have or will be putting in the garage so you can plan the sizes and types of storage you need. Make sure that there is enough storage for everything. Maximize your space by using pegboards, hooks, and shelves.
Safety
You never know when your children or pets would wander into the garage so better to keep it safe enough for them. Store sharp and dangerous items inside cabinets or drawers. Lock them or use a closure that is not easy for them to maneuver. Cover unused outlets with outlet covers, available at hardware and DIY shops. Store tools and chemicals in high places so that kids could not reach them. Make sure there is nothing in there they could use to climb or step on.
